​Join documentary photographers Sanjit Das and Suzanne Lee (S&S) for an open and practical conversation about what it really takes to build a life around photography. With more than 25 years of experience between them, including work in documentary, editorial and commercial photography, photo editing, filmmaking and education, S&S have seen the industry change from many different sides.

They have worked with international publications and organisations, were among Sony's first Global Ambassadors and continue to work closely with Leica on photographic projects, exhibitions and workshops. This workshop isn't about cameras or technical skills. It's about everything that happens around the photograph: the research and thinking that goes into finding a story, developing your own voice, approaching editors and clients, taking on assignments, building personal projects and finding ways to make a living while continuing to do work that matters to you.

They will share honestly about the less glamorous parts of the profession: rejection, uncertainty, changing direction, balancing commissioned work with personal projects and figuring out how photography fits into the rest of your life. There won't be a formula for becoming a successful photographer. Instead, S&S will share their own experiences, including the things that worked, the mistakes they made and the lessons they've learnt along the way.

The workshop will be informal and interactive, with plenty of time for questions, in-depth discussions and an open exchange about the realities of working as a photographer today.

Before the workshop, participants will receive a short questionnaire so Sanjit and Suzanne can get a better sense of who is joining, what they're working on and what they hope to get from the session. This will help shape the conversation around the people in the room rather than following a fixed programme.
